Life is a challenge, live and overcome it. (I am the author of this :P)
I started with a phrase because my class was about challenges not only for me but also for the students. Today, the class was about practices such as a reading and a listening practice. I also reviewed the simple present tense with them. They understood that very well, and it makes me glad since they are moving forward in their studies. The reading practice was short but nice, and they are very good at reading as I could observe. Also the listening practice was a little hard, but they did their best. I suggested them to watch movies on English with English subtitles to get used to the vocabulary. I had some problems because as we know, nothing is perfect although we must look for perfection every time we perform or do something. The only problem I had was that some students did not understand so well the recording for the listening; anyways, they are in the Basic English level, but I know they will do their best to overcome that issue. I am glad because the group was very nice.
This time, they were not so participative, and it makes me think that I must find a new way to motivate and make the class more dynamic. So if you have any suggestion for it, let me know please :). Cheers.
Hello Gustavo..!!
ResponderEliminarWhat a good piece of advise you just gave to them, sometimes teachers must let students know that they have to go foward with their studies if they want to improve. Indeed, if you don't activate students' schema they would not work the way you want or wish to. It is nice you notice it, so you can change it and get the best of everything!!!...
As you said your class was about practices and there always will be some difficulties but it doesn’t mean that you as a teacher didn’t give your best.
ResponderEliminarAs you said sometimes students are not so participative, but that is our challenge try to encourage them to participate.
Every time I read an entry I find so many ways to begin a class, depending on the topic of course. It is nice that you began with a phrase since "Man does not live by bread alone",and encouraging them is not only part of their instruction but also of their education.
ResponderEliminarOn the other hand, I can see ,for what you say, that listening was a hard task for them so more efforts should be made to strengthen that area.
The other thing is that you coud notice that not all of the students learn at the same pace. But they learned something new. You are achieving your goals.
Hi Gus! I liked your quote, and it is nice that you shared it with your students. It is good that you have told them how to improve their English in an entertaining way. I this that it is normal to have some problems when teaching, because we are learning, but I know that all of us will be better day after day through the experience that we are getting now. Congrats my friend :)
