First class experience

Well, I am in the basic English group with teacher Alex. Today, Friday, February 8th was my first teaching experience. It was a very nice experience for different factors. I would like to point out what they are. Also, not everything will be always perfect, though; I know I must improve in many areas in order to enrich my way of teaching. It has been great to teach in this group for so many reasons, but I will talk about two specifically.

First of all, the group has a little knowledge about English, and they speak English most of the time. This is something that I like because they know what they have to do in order to acquire a very good level of English. Also, there are some students who find English hard, but they do their best in order to learn how to develop themselves in the target language. Besides, the students of this group are doing their best on every activity assigned to them.

Second of all, they are always willing to participate in every activity. There was no need for me to ask them to participate because voluntarily, they raised their hand and performed with my activity. This tells me that they are willing to learn leaving shyness aside. I really like this because this group is very close and participative without caring about making mistakes, which is common to learn. They performed the activity very well. The activity was a dialogue, which they learned and later performed.

As a conclussion, teaching in the university is a great opportunity since you have the chance to interact with adults who know what they want in life so that they are aware of what studying in college means. I am eager to teach next week, and I hope I can do it even better than I did today.

  1. Nice Gustavo, let me tell you that I´m teaching the same level as you, and thanks God my group is really nice too...they are all the time eager to participate in the activities, and you don´t have to push them for that. They are very respectful which is really nice for us as teachers, and for that reason you can develop your class in a very nice environment!!!! ;)

  2. That is so nice! The group I have is like yours, they love to participate, and as you said it is not necesary to ask them to do something. That is nice for us, and I think that their desire to learn motivate us a lot.

  3. According to what you say here,It was a pretty nice experience my friend. I noticed you enjoyed yourself. I must say that you are right when saying the group is very participative. It is pleasant to work with people who are willing to learn all the time. They have that characteristic of speaking English all the time too, something which not just everyone has. It is enjoyable to work at that level though you treat with beginners. Great for you dude!

  4. Hello Gustavo as you may know I am teaching the same group as Sara, and as she says they are a really nice group. Despite all the limitations whe have in the classroom (the space is not enough for the amount of students), you just find a way to cope with it, and take advantage of each opportunity.
This challenge we have right know is making us try all the things we have learned, and perhaps our class is not perfect but at least we are getting the experience we need in order to improve, which to me is the most important thing.
Congrats for your effort my friend!!!.

  7. Terrific teacher Gustavo!!
It's so great that you had a nice experience in your first teaching practice and that your students were willing to participate as well as willing to learn. As you said it's nice to work with people who know what they want and who really try to do the best to get their goal which is to adquire the English as a second language, in this case.
And I'm pretty sure you are going to do it even better next time.
    Best regards.
