Well, I am in a new class which is Basic English with teacher Karina. To start telling my experience, I want to share another quote of mine:
"To enjoy something, you only have to do what you like"
Well, let's get into business. I introduced myself, and gave some directions to establish respect and commitment with the content and myself as well as my respect to them. I will not lie; I was not so eager to teach because I had a bad night, so it was a problem for me. Nevertheless, I tried to do my best. I provided different activities to reinforce the previous classes about the simple past tense. To start the activities, I provided them a word puzzle to solve in ten minutes. They did very well, and they somehow liked it. The second activity we performed was a song. I am using the lesson plan of Elizabeth and Sara, so the song was "Killing me softly" by Roberta Flack (1973). In my opinion, I do like that song, and it is very nice, but the students knew it was an old song, so they did not enjoy it that much. Anyways, the purpose was to teach the past tense not to make them like it :P. hahahaha. We practiced, and it was nice. The last activity was to perform a roleplay using the past tense. The time was not enough, so only one group participated. I liked the group because they participate, and even though they are few students, they get along well. My expectations are high, and I know that I will enjoy the following classes.

Hello Centeno! It is a pleasure to comment on your dicactical experiences. I'm glad to know that the group you are working with has responded nicely. That, of course, genarates confidence about the work being done.
ResponderEliminarOn the other hand, using music in an English class is a very good option. Sometimes it is hard to find the appropriate music , but it is fun and students like it because it´s something different even when they don´t know the song.
You are doing a great job there, using a variety activities to have the students participate and improve their learning.
Gordo!
ResponderEliminarIt is nice to see that your expectations are high!
Let me congrat you because you could overcome tha situation about the bad night you got. It is good that this happens becuase it gives you an opportunity to learn how to manage these situations.
I know that students may don't like the songs we play or the games we develop...what you said is real. We play the song not to please them, but to teach them something...nonetheless, it is better when they like what we play because they get identify with it :D
You did id great dude :D
Nice class Gustaviro!! I used the same lesson plan and I liked the song as well ;) your attitude is nice, because you have high expectations. I know you did a very good job and I am pretty sure you will be better with the time. Congrasts and keep in that way :)
ResponderEliminarHello Tavito!!
ResponderEliminarI know this group very well and they are very cooperative with the teachers. It is a shame you had a bad time the night before, that must have been crucial in your development. You should try to prepare not only the class but yourself as well, your mood, etc. Sometimes this is difficult because we are humans, but as we are playing this teaching role students percieve the class in the wrong way.
Despite everything, they liked the class.
About the song, Sara and myself loved it ahahahahaha...and you have a point, the objective was to make them focused on the grammar part.
Next time I know you will do it even better. Let's remmember we are learning, and never is going to be as perfect as we wish or want to.
best wishes tavix
Hy Gus! I know those guys like to participate and do the taks you ask them to, i understand when you say the song was kind of old for them because they prefer music more you know!! hope your expectations come real, keep on working hard and doing your best. Nice activities;)
ResponderEliminarHey dude!
ResponderEliminarcongratulations! I think that teaching that class even though you didn't have a good night was very professional. I would just like to remind you that if you think that something in the lesson (like the old song) can be improved, you are free to change it, or you can leave it if you consider it is strictly unreplaceable. I mean, I'm just saying.
Great job man!
