Second class. II Period

Well, this class was a very good one for me since I had to teach some grammar on the future forms: "Will and going to." I really liked it because it was the first time for me to teach grammar, but there was a bad part: the weather. Incredibly, the weather was so hot that I was sweating while teaching and it was not for being nervous.
Anyways, I had to deal with the weather, and I remembered all those days when we studied and the weather was so hot when the teacher explained some grammar to us! SO TEDIOUS! Well, I started the class by greeting them and asking them how their weekend was because my class was on Monday. The class started really well, and then, I moved on to draw a "timeline" on the board to indicate where the simple future and the near future were located to use them well.

Time passed, and the weather got hotter than it already was, so I had them practice a little bit about what we just studied, and they understood as I could see even though they were not so comfortable with the heat. As teacher, you must learn how to deal with the weather and its causes in the students' mood. I know, it is hard, but what else can we do? The first practice was only about the use of will just to check if they had understood what I just said. We checked the answers, and there was a hard one that only one student could answer it right. It was nice because he showed me that I did a good job. Nevertheless, I am sure that I must keep practicing because I want all students to learn.

Finally, we developed the last activity which was about planning what to do in another activity. This was about reordering some sentences. It was a piece of cake for them. I was glad to see them working, but we all were tired for the heat :/. I must learn how to deal with it. To teach in the afternoon is hard because the weather varies... sometimes it is too hot as that day and others, it is raining. The weather influences in the students' mood, as I could check in the class and as I remember when we were students only. This has been my class, and I wait for your comments.

  1. Hello Tavito!! I can imagine the weather you had to deal with!! but I am glad that you developed your class very well spite of it. It is nice to know that you enjoyed the grammar part, and you explained it without being nervous! I am sure you are doing a nice job as teacher, because you said that you want that your students learn, and you know that not all the teachers think in that way. Continue working hard my friend!!

  2. hello gustavo,i know that it is so difficult to teach with that kind of weather because it is so tedious to be in a classroom in the afternoon and deal with the weather. this is one of the things that we don't expect and we can not manage it, but we have to continue with the class and try to motivate the students in order to make them pay attention to the class and don't think about the weather. with the part of grammar, i can say that it is difficult to teach grammar but not imposible, you just have to be careful and try to focus on what you have to explain because sometimes that students get confuse with the part of grammar.
I encourage you to continue in that way because I can see that you are a good teacher that do it with enthusiasm and motivation. congratulations gustavo

  4. Hello gustavo, wow, i can imagine how uncomfortable was for you to develop the class for weather conditions. i understand that students get tired and sometimes they just focus their attention on the weather if it makes them feel bad, but I think that in these cases a teacher must know how to change the methodology in order to have students paying more attention and concentrated in the class, so it is our challenge. Good job for my friend. i wish you the best.

  5. Hello Gustavo!!!!
It is good to know that since the beginning of your class you were eager to teach those related to grammar. That’s pretty good because your get more confident and your transmit that to your students.
As I could read in your comment you had some problems with the weather, I can understand you because as you said we faced the same situations, but remember that is something that it is not under our control. We can´t manage those things, but what you can do is to develop activities in order to catch student´s attention.

  6. Dear friend..!!
what else can we say about the weather. Indeed, that is something out of our control. The only thing that matters at the end is how we keep our students focused on the lesson; for that reason, the teachers' work increments the difficulty, but you could see the good side of it and continue your class.
That's what we should do, no matter the difficulty or problem we can have, we need to keep a positive attitude and move on.
    The show must continue right!!!
    Take care my friend

  7. Hello Gust, I know there are certain things we cannot deal with, and we just have to move forward and try to not think about it, it is really difficult but we have to continue with the development of the class. I think you could stop the class for a moment, and have students doing something else so that they forget about it for a while, may be a time filler... would be a nice idea!!
    Keep on guy...

  8. Hello! Gustavo

I know that it is really difficult and uncomfortable to teach when the weather is too hot, but anyway we always have to continue with the class. Moreover, I could see that you did a good job in the grammar part because your students could develop the exercises despite some of them were kind of difficult. And it is very nice to see that our students understand what we explain them. Continue working hard..BLESSINGS!!

  9. hey dude! Well there always will be situations that we can not manage...wheather is maybe the most powerful agaisnt teaching...We can't manage this situation, but we can manage the environment! The inner invironment of the classroom must be a remedy agaisnt wheather conditions and I guess you did it great! The most important is to have a possitive actitude and don't let the ss know that you are uncorforable working on that wheather......class actitude is just an extend of teacher actitude!! Well done dude!
